It was only my second week as a freshman in high school. My second week in freshman German. I don't know why I found myself asking a question that would only result in more peer abuse being rained down upon me. Yet, there I was. Looking at Mrs. Henry, our German teacher and asking her what 'Dumesel' meant. She looked at me for a brief moment and asked where I had heard it. "My grandmother." I replied. "Was your grandmother German?" "Oh, no!" I snappe...

In the PM area and now in the forums...when I type a reply or try to write a new forum post, it's going v e r y s l o w. I'm a hunt and peck typer, yet I could type the dictionary up to Z before the word Apple ever appears on the screen. Currently, because it is so slow and will not allow me to anything else on my PC til the words catch up, I have to type my stuff in notepad first and paste it here. With my PC at work, I don't have this problem at all. On both, I am running th...
"Time Warner's AOL has acquired Goowy, San Diego-based flash widget startup for an undisclosed sum. Widgetized versions of AOL properties could be the next step for the dinosaur ISP." I love a good widget, so I went to check out Goowy. "Goowy, a tiny, six-employee outfit which currently has partnerships with Brightcove, Veoh, MTV, VH1, and Red Bull, hosts and syndicates widgets developed on its own yourminis platform." Goowy offers 'yourminis' widgets and the 'goowy webtop...
I have ZoneAlarm Security Suite version:7.0.462.000. I don't use it's antivirus. I have not been able to get into Frostwire or Stardock IRC. I have tried setting the programs to trusted and allow all the way across. Nothing. Even when I turn off ZA, both programs still tell me 'Blocked by ZoneAlarm'. Can anyone help with this?
I've tried a few of the virtual community type services and social networking. None of them impressed me much. Then, I came across this in RSS. YOOWALK is a representation of the worldwide web as a 3D world where you can: Browse the web in 3D with your avatar Build a 3D version of your website Have your own room in 3D Meet people and hang out with them It's barely in Beta and they are accepting preregistration for beta testers. I decided to sign up and thought that ther...
I came across some cool stuff this week. One item in particular was designed for kids 3 and up. It's actually pretty cool, so I thought I would focus my picks this week on stuff for the kids. To be more precise, things to bring out the 'skinner' in the little nose-miners! First up is Dremples 1.5 WWW Link The screenshot/gif doesn't begin to do it justice. 'Drempels makes colorful, swirling, hallucinogenic patterns that resemble a hurricane or tornado. It normally runs in yo...
Recently I've learned of 'Giveaway of the Day'. It's been around a while and it seems strange I haven't learned of it before. You see, I spend quite a bit of time searching the web for 'freeware'. There is lots of it but as you may know, some of it really sucks or is just quite useless. So, I thought I would offer up a few free apps that I have downloaded and actually used. These are app's I like and found to be relatively useful and or interesting. I just thought I'd share them with y...
When I was fourteen, living in Philadelphia, I cam across my first ‘geek-national holiday’. I was walking through the Temple University campus and started noticing flyers posted everywhere that promoted ‘Wear Blue Jeans If You Gay’ day. I was fourteen. I had enough problems at school. I had a kid named Mark Ashton that beat the shit out of once a year. I could walk into school and know that that day would be the day. This went on from first grade up through high school. I made sure I didn’t wea...
Perhaps you have received an email that starts something like this... "Greetings in Jesus' name, dear friend, I am the widow of Idi Amin." Perhaps you receive several hundred of them on a regular basis. They are known as '419 Scams; , named after a section of the Nigerian penal code. In the email, someone will claim that they need your assistance in acquiring some large amount money that is held up in probate, etc. The catch is, they need some money from you in order to d...
I have accumulated some PC's. 2 eMachines T2642 that don't run (a notorious bug caused these babies to crash...the only thing still good is the hard drives and memory...256MB each) IBM 300GL Gateway with Celeron and running Win98 Besides burning them.......what would you do with them to get the most out of them? I've been thinking of putting together something as a secondary that I might try to run Linux on, but not sure I can or where to start.
Who do you know, that, like myself, is whining for their Vista Upgrade? Well, they need wait no more. Through Major Geeks I found this cool little 'Vista Upgrade' prank. I ran it myself and it's absolutely harmless (Major Geeks has been 100% good for me as far as safe downloads and programs). The graphics are great and it looks like you are actually getting the upgrade. The only flaw would be that anyone who is familiar with 'installs' would know it takes 'much' longer than what the prank does...
It’s the home stretch, boys and girls. Less than a week ‘til we go into the hospital and they ‘take her’, as my wife says. The phrase ‘take her’ freaks me out almost as much as the day the told us ‘when’ they would ‘take her’. You set appointments for teeth pulling or having tonsils taken out. To get one for the ‘taking of the baby’ just seems so surreal. I have learned a lot over the past nine months. I’d like to share some of that knowledge with you, especially soon to be dads or dad’...
This is the third part of the series I began when we found out we were expecting. This was written July 24, 2006 when we went for the first OBGYN visit. I want to thank everyone who either saved these and sent them to me ( I was missing some I didn't even know about) and T-Man who sent me the complete list. This morning was our first official visit to the OBGYN. My wife has to drink some ‘glucose’ concoction before we even leave the house. I think it’s so we can start early on ge...
This is a repost from July 2 2006 that was the First in a series I started when I found I was going to be a father. Somehow, the posts vanished and I lost my file on this one. I posted Part @ the other day and mentioned I had lost this first article and I would like to thank ~sgoheen06 at Deviant Art, who saved it (God only knows why) and got it to me yesterday. If you liked this the first time or this is your first time reading it, you can thank her, since she saved it. http://sgoheen06...
