Po' Smedley's Life And Brain Drippings
Published on March 18, 2014 By PoSmedley In OS Customization

I'm not sure what i did but for some reason Object Desktop Manager has decided that I don't have any Stardock software on my computer. My subscription is expired and I'm concerned because I may need to re-install Windows on my laptop and I don't know how it will effect trying to reinstall my Stardock stuff. I was actually wanting to do some skinning and make sure my stuff was as up to date and backed up before I started messing with Windows and I don't think I even have the Stardock stuff backed up except for the actual skins.

I'm not sure how I proceed from here.

Po...........I believe that all you have to do is sign into your Stardock Account on the Stardock website and you'll find all the progs you previously purchased are archived and you can re-download them. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't feel too bad, Po - I have an active subscription and neither SDC nor ODM can figure out what's installed here (I consider that an issue, in tech parlance ).  Hopefully, you have archived the installers somewhere.

Po': If you don't have an active subscription and you don't have your installers archived - you won't have ODNT.

You will have to remove SP1 and have the W7 installation disk. Please email me. OK?

This works for all the My Colors skins, premium skins, and objectdock but nothing connected with objectdesktop. It only shows Objectdesktop is expired and does not list the individual progs.

I don't. They were archived/saved on the laptop (Someone was kind of enough to make sure they were, for me) but I must have been on an extra heavy dose of painkillers and deleted them.

I've never been aware of that secret install. I'll email you in the morning, Doc.

Well...

that

did

not

work

out

very

well

at

all.

SO..it will be a while til I get ODNT. Still not sure what I did wrong here.

I was 100% sure I had it all backed up and a back up of the back up on my external HD.

on Apr 04, 2014

Okay. I had to reinstall Windows.

I'm confused on the ODNT and what I need to do.

My subscription expired last year and I don't have ANY of the apps backed up at all. I have all the premium skins and master skins I purchased backed up, but none of the actual apps. There is no issue (that I am aware of) of over- activations or anything like that.

So, do I need to be saving to purchase a NEW subscription or can I still just renew even though I don't have it installed? (I'm guessing the first, but asking so I know for sure what I need to do.)

Was Fences Pro part of ODNT? I had Pro but can only run 1.1 (not Pro) with the product key# I have.

I also had ObjectDock 2 and my product key# still shows but I am afarid to download and install to find that it doesn't work either. (I don't want to be installing stuff that I can't activate or is going to expire on me in 30 days like Fences is getting ready to do. I would rather wait til I have the money to get it.)

Sorry if this is confusing.

I think you'd qualify for a renewal rate but I'm not certain - a nice note to Stardock Sales might help in that regard.

ObjectDock is no longer supported or being further developed as I understand it.  IIRC, it was never included in OD.

Fences Pro and ObjectBar are listed as included in OD (according to my MyAccount page).

Here's the full list:

  • ControlCenter 1.5
  • Decor8
  • DeskScapes 3
  • DeskScapes 8
  • DesktopX 3
  • Fences 2.0
  • Fences® Pro
  • IconDeveloper
  • IconPackager 5
  • IconX
  • Keyboard Launchpad
  • Launch8
  • LogonStudio
  • LogonStudio (Free)
  • ModernMix
  • ObjectBar
  • RightClick
  • SkinStudio 8
  • SkinStudio Professional
  • SoundPackager
  • Stardock Virtual Desktops
  • Start8
  • Theme Manager
  • Tiles Bundle
  • Tweak7
  • TweakVista
  • WebBlinds
  • WindowBlinds 7
  • WindowBlinds 8
  • WindowFX 2
  • WindowFX 4
  • WindowFX 5

I'm sure you know but FTR not all apps work on all OS's, or work at all for that matter (why WebBlinds is still listed is a mystery to me), but that's the list.

Po, ObjectDock (and CursorFX) are not part of ODNT so you can re-download those with or without an active sub.  They have their own serial numbers to register with. If you run up against the  Activations Limits reached thing, just contact support@stardock.com and they can reset you.

As for your sub, Renew should show in your store account page as an option.  You don't need to start  from scratch.

P.S. ObjectDock isn't Legacy ..........  yet.

Those were all part of your ODNT Suite over the years. It serves to mark you as a old-timer.  What did you start with .....WindowBlinds1?  I'm pretty sure I started with Version 6.0

" or work at all for that matter"......

This is an actual page that shows what is included in ObjectDesktop. FTR.

What did you start with .....WindowBlinds1?

Precisely.  Still available for download on my Downloads page.

In late 2000 or early 2001 I stumbled across a program on CD called Icon-Do-It when browsing at a software store - you can guess what it '-Did'; it was inexpensive and I bought it, which hooked me on OS customization and I think searching for similar apps online is how I discovered Stardock.

But my join date should have been clue enough.

on Apr 05, 2014

I remember all of those apps as well. ObjectEdit had to be one of my favorites.

Thanks for the answers on my stuff. I'm gonna try installing OD with the product key I have and see if it's still good. I'll have to wait on the rest. I may install ubuntu on a partition so I can play around with customizing that in the meantime.

edit: ObjectDock installed fine. Thanks again!

Object Dock Plus (tabs) does not work with Dexpot and Stardock Virtual Desktops doesn’t work with windows (64) so it is useless to me.

Stardock should make this clear so we do not waste money and time.
